American Flag Now OK in Colorado Town

Filed April 11, 2006 at 12:17 pm under AFL Business by William Teach

About damn time, too (from the Rocky Mountain News):

People gathered in the rain Friday morning to wave Old Glory, hand out American-flag T-shirts to students and cheer the lifting of a ban on certain types of clothing at Shaw Heights Middle School.

Most of the students accepted the free T-shirts, but some Hispanic students declined, saying they feared they’d be the targets of overly exuberant patriotism.

George Straface, superintendent of the Adams County 50 School District, said the six students suspended while the ban was in effect will be dealt with in two different ways. Those suspended for taunting others will keep the incident on their records. But those suspended for wearing banned clothing will have their suspensions erased.

Principal Myla Shepherd banned Mexican and U.S. flags, flag-insignia bandanas and camouflage clothing after the items ratcheted up tensions at the school that has about an equal number of Hispanic and white students.

Nice to know that Freedom of Expression still trumps PC insanity once in awhile.

“We are very patriotic, there is an American flag in every classroom, and they say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning,” Straface said. “But starting last week, there were a large number of kids who were using the symbols in a less-than-patriotic way.”

In other words, proud Americans were showing their support for our Colors and Flag. Gee, must have driven the liberals and illegal immigrants right over the edge. And, we care about their opinions why, exactly? Love it or leave it. Do not try flying your original countries flag over ours.
